Cascada El Chiflon, the bluest and tallest of waterfalls in Mexico
Updated: 5 days ago
Almost 2 hours drive from Montebello National Park we arrived at Casacada El Chiflon to see Mexicos tallest and bluest waterfall which stands at over 120 meters, that's 390 feet tall! This is the tallest waterfalls in all of Mexico.
The weather was perfect and cleared from an early morning fog and rain to almost unbearable sunshine. The walk through Chiflon was absolutely amazing, with plenty of photo opportunities with the waterfalls. Some spots where even beautiful for a swim.
It took us a good hours walk upwards to the main waterfall which simply just takes any breath away. Along the way we saw a very out of place sink hole. It was incredible seeing a sinkhole in such a location. Not sure whether anyone would have ever dared to go into it as it was pretty small. I certainly with my big hips would not have been able to go through it. Let alone my claustrophobia allow it!
There we managed to see Chiflon waterfall from 2 angles, each more mesmerizing than the other. On the way down people had the option to zip line down to the starting point, or to walk down. I was not ready to zip through this place and preferred to walk back down and enjoy more of the beautiful scenery.
After having seen both Lagunas de Montebello National Park and Cascada El Chiflon in the same day. I have to say each deserved their time. Half day at Lagunas de Montebello and definitely a full day at Cascada El Chiflon to spend a day swimming, having a picnic, zip-lining and relaxing in the colorful hammocks with a book and drink.
